Whoa. Nelly!

Nelly Furtado’s debut album, Whoa. Nelly! Not only can soothe the soul, it can also wake you up! This Brazilian-Canadian really knows how to yell. Furtado’s first single, I’m Like a Bird, with its catchy lyrics and fun tune helped to project her into the main stream. The poppy sounds of I’m like a Bird does no justice to the rest of the Album. I must admit the first single seemed like the launching of another one hit wonder. But No! Just a couple months later Furtado came back with, Turn Off the Light, which really helps to explain the rest of the album. A mix of urban beats and Alternative tunes puts Furtado in a Genre of her own. Furtado’s voice grabs you and makes you listen. Pop? I don’t think so, Nelly writes and sings her own stuff.
